All eliminated all political opposition

They made extensive use of secret police

Sources of information, such as newspapers, radio, were censored

Freedom of speech and assembly were prohibited

Art and artistic expression were rigidly controlled

Enemies were executed or put in forced labor camps

All racists and often anti-semitic and acted upon their emotions

Used propaganda to gain power and later control

All were distrustful, suspicious, almost paranoid
